Corporate Members: Crossbow Education Ltd
Educational Resources Awards 2011 short-listed: Supplier of the Year.
Crossbow supply a range of multisensory resources to meet many learning needs, and are best known for dyslexia and Visual Stress support material.
Since adding pencil grips to our catalogue a few years ago we have increased our handwriting section to include, among other things, our own A3 width writing slope, tinted handwriting practise books, and the wonderful Heavyweight Pen (for which we are the sole UK distributor) for those with more serious motor control difficulties.
We introduced our Eye Level Reading Ruler in 2005 (ERA awards 2006 short-listed: SEN product of the year) and now lead the field in educating schools to the importance of identifying and supporting children with Visual Stress, supplying well over half the schools and colleges in the UK with reading rulers, overlays, and tinted exercise books.
In January 2010 our reading rulers were shown in a BBC "One Show" feature on Dyslexia. Thousands of children and young people who were finding it impossible or very difficult to decode text have now embarked successfully on the reading adventure.
Our range of tinted exercise books includes A4 exercise books, spelling books, and handwriting books.
As a result of the simple intervention of using tinted writing paper many children are now able to read - and therefore learn from - what they have written much more easily than when white paper was used.
An increasing number of schools are finding that our tinted exercise books are making such a difference to the quality of children’s work that they are introducing them throughout the whole school. Crossbow founding director, ex-SEN teacher Bob Hext, is presenting CPD seminars on "Reading, Writing and Colour" at the TES Education North and Special Needs London exhibitions this year.
