30th January 07: A Passion for Handwriting A video on Teachers TV For head teacher Katy Brierley, dyslexia meant enduring rather than enjoying her school days. But it also gave her a passion for handwriting that she has since translated into an effective whole-school policy that ensures pupils are intensively coached in handwriting skills. Dr Mary Howard of the National Handwriting Association points out that handwriting skills are of particular importance for special educational needs pupils; it's sometimes one of the few means of communication at their disposal

21st January 2007: Happy New Year to you all. The 3D Centre is offering Practical Strategies for Children with Hard to Read Handwriting and other relevant courses for the Spring/Summer 07

1st September 06: Handwriting - Are you concerned? is out of print until further notice. We'll let you know when the new version is ready.

12th June 06: Date for the London accredited course are now available.

12th March 2006: The Accredited course in London will  definitely run in Autumn 2006 as we have sufficient applicants to make it viable. Dates will be confirmed ASAP

11th March 2006: Due to increased production costs some of our publication prices are changing from 1st May 2006, so BUY now!

21st February 2006: Latest Handwriting Today (Autumn 2005) is now available and has already been sent to members. 

9th January 2006: Happy New Year to you all. Sadly, the Accredited course due to start on in London has been cancelled due to too few applicants. The Accredited course in Wales will be going ahead as planned

27th November 2005: Accredited courses are now available for both London and Wales. Places are still available for the London course, so please book now.

8th November 2005: We are now accepting Paypal. The accredited course has been postponed and will now run in the new year. The new dates are as follows:Thursdays 12th, 19th 26th Jan and 2nd Feb 2006, Wednesdays 22nd Feb and 2nd March 2006. The date for Day 7 is To Be Advised, but will be in March 2006.

16th August 2005: Please note that the date for the Handwriting course at the 3D Centre in Halifax has been changed to Thursday 10th Nov.2005. Other course have been added, including the next Accredited Course - see Courses page. Also note that Angela Webb is selling Peg boards and pegs and Pegs to Paper: - a booklet of pegboard exercises for handwriting - see publications

23rd January 2005:  The NHA was featured in an article on handwriting in the TES.

2nd November 2004: HIG's name is changing from Handwriting Interest Group to The National Handwriting Association. The web site name will also be changing to reflect this and is now www.nha-handwriting.org.uk In the news, the  National Schools Handwriting Competition is worth a look over.

11th September 2004: An exciting new development in the North of England. The 3D Centre for Specific Learning Difficulties in Halifax, West Yorkshire is hosting a one day course Practical Strategies for Children with Handwriting Problems on 15th October, 9.30 - 3.45. See Courses for more information.

August 1st 2004: DCD Research – UK A conference on research into Developmental Coordination Disorder held at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford on 23-24 March, 2004. A review of the conference and a booklet of abstracts is now available. See Courses  and Publications page.

July 12th 2004: Accredited course now to run on the following days: Basics: 20th Oct and 9th Nov 04. Difficulties: 10th Nov 04 and 25th Jan 05. Keyboarding: 26th Jan 05.

April 28th 2004: Accredited Handwriting course has been cancelled due to low numbers. We hope to be running this later in the year, probably in November, so check back here for updates

March 6th 2004: Handwriting Requirements for SATS Level 2 up on Article page

February 27th 2004: Courses page updated and information on the Accredited Course up.

January 28th 2004: The  2004 Handwriting contest is underway. The contest opens on January 1 each year and accepts entries through  to June 30.

January 16th 2004: Two new articles added to the Articles page. Scientific Handwriting Analysis and Helping children with  handwriting difficulties. Curtis gets to grips with a Dexball. Also, new Links added and more updates to the Course's page

December 12th 2003: Course page updated with a conference on research into Developmental Coordination Disorder run jointly by HIG and The Psychological Corporation and a study day on Children with Handwriting Difficulties organised by NNATPIP Wales with contribution from HIG members.

December 6th 2003: Stop Press: Innovation Nation – BBC1 at ~7.00 on Wednesdays until December 17. The BBC asked HIG’s help when advising the inventors of a new type of pen, The Mosquito Pen, featured on the programme ‘Innovation Nation’. One of our members joined other professionals in making informed suggestions to the inventors as they planned a prototype. Further stages in development – marketing and presentation - will be shown on future programmes and viewers will be asked to vote for the most successful invention.

August 9th 2003: The summer  issue of Handwriting Today is out, along with the eagerly awaited new publication Handwriting in the secondary school. A new web page, In the News, compliments the Handwriting in the News section in the journal, and provides the full information on each article mentioned.

July 5th 2003: An article on digitalbrain.com 'an industry-leader in the development and implementation of electronic learning places within schools and colleges',  emphasizes the continuing importance of good handwriting. While another article about the winner of his age category in the 2002 World Handwriting Contest, sponsored by the Albany, N.Y.-based Handwriting for Humanity club, talks about his preference for using the computer! Students shirk cursive as keyboard rules in third grade . HIG member Kate Gladstone gives her response to this in an a letter entitled, Handwriting - has its time come at last

April 20th 2003: Writing Speed and Extra Time in Examinations - BDA 2001 this article is well worth a read.

March 28th 2003: Sale prices for Tools of the Trade, and Handwriting - Are you concerned?  Also updates for Review of Handwriting Schemes available.  The Children with Handwriting Difficulties day on April 10th  has unfortunately had to be cancelled. It has been rescheduled for November.

January  25th 2003: New page added with suggestions for providing help for children with handwriting difficulties. Courses pages updated

October 4th 2002: Brand new look to the web site. I hope you find it easier to navigate and to find the information you want. An Articles page has been added, with two articles at present, and one more to be added soon. The FAQ will hopefully answer all the questions that you have wanted to ask. Do send in a question if you think something is missing from it. The programme for 'Handwriting - the basics' on Tuesday 12th of November has been updated on the Courses page.
